A Typical Class

The class begins with series of gentle warming up exercises, followed by Taoist deep breathing exercises and K’ai Men (Taoist Yoga) to activate your internal energy.
Then you will learn some movements of T’ai Chi Dance which is a series of flowing movements designed to stimulate energy around the body.
This is followed by a combination of partner exercises, such as Sticky Hands (also known as Push Hands) and Whirling Hands, which are designed to enable you to apply the use of energy and Taoist principles whilst interacting with another person.
Towards the end of the class you will learn some movements of the T’ai Chi Form which is a more concentrated and meditative series of flowing movements helping to generate, circulate and then store Chi (internal energy) in the body, which, with practice, will build up over time, strengthening the body tissues and increasing health.
The classes are not competitive, so people can develop at their own rate. The emphasis is on staying relaxed and comfortable throughout, working to each individuals’ abilities.
The best way to find out what T’ai Chi is like is to come along and give it a try.
